Our Lady of Delivrance parish in Otan, western mountains of Homos, Syria. The current building is about 100 years old, constructed from local volcanic black stones. It's about 20 meters long and eight meters wide from inside. It has two doors, originally one for men and another for women and children; but, now only one door is used for all faithful alike. However, inside the Church men form one block to the front, while women sit in the end of the Church and some small side banches are occupied by children.
Fr. Ibrahim is the local pastor since about 20 years. He's married and lives in Otan, and served the parish of Otan & the nearby parish of Marrani. He uses an old motorcycle to communte between his schooling job and parish work, regardless the weather. Fr. Ibrahim's family of six young daughters and two boys are quite active at the local Church. They basically form the choir and take care of most of the Church's needs.
To the let of the church (eastside) there is a parish hall. Empty of any furniture but few modest chairs and a diesel small heater. During the spiritual retreat we used the parish hall for bible studies. The hall is also used for sunday schooling and other parish functions.
