Benehlay, my hometown. Located in Middle Shoof, south Mt. Lebanon, Lebanon. The term Be-nehlay derives from Aramaic, and means the place of valleys of water fountains, as its geography shows.
Wadi (valley in Arabic) Benehlay, as it is known today, falls about 400 meters above the Mediterranean sea, which overseas. Its inhabitants are about 300 houses. The main source of living in the village is agriculture. Big Mama white bean the main product, is known locally: white gold.
Benehlay is predominalty Maronite, then Melkite, both Catholics, and makes part of a Catholic archipelago in Druze sea, along with its neighboring towns: Ben'Waytie, Sir'Jibal, Sham'areen, Deir Dourit, Wadi El'Deir, Showai'leak, Deir El'Kamar, etc.
The picture (summer 2005) shows Deir'Dourit down to the left, then further down left Wadi Benehlay.
